Mandeleo Animal Health Group Announces the Acquisition of The Vetcare Centres in Guernsey

London,United Kingdom – 1 March 2024

Mandeleo Animal Health Group (“MAHG”) is thrilled to announce its acquisition of a majority stake in The Vetcare Centres, a leading animal health provider in Guernsey. This investment marks MAHG’s first venture into animal health, underlining its commitment to high quality health care through innovation and partnership.

The Vetcare Centres, established in 1981 and operated by world-renowned veterinary surgeons Dr John Knight and Dr Jean-Paul Segers, has been at the forefront of animal health care on the island. Mandeleo Animal Health Group is set to further elevate the clinics' services and empower the staff by leveraging its expertise in digital transformation, clinical optimisation and growth.

Dr. John Knight commented on the deal saying, “We [The Vetcare Centres] are pleased to find a partner in Mandeleo Animal Health Group who is concerned with the wellbeing and growth of our team.”

Growing Demand

The United Kingdom & Channel Islands boast a pet population of c. 22 million cats and dogs, underscoring a growing demand for animal health services. With over £8 billion spent on pets and related services in 2023, the animal health sector presents an attractive opportunity for innovation and growth. However, despite this flourishing market, the sector remains highly fragmented, with more than 2,500 independently owned animal health clinics across the geography.

A Commitment to Clinical Excellence, Wellbeing and Innovation

With this partnership, MAHG aims to implement a series of innovative strategies to enhance the quality of care, operational efficiencies and staff wellbeing at The Vetcare Centres. Among these initiatives is the development of MAHG’s proprietary animal health operating system designed to streamline operations and further facilitate high-quality animal care and significantly elevated staff packages, perks and support. Additionally, MAHG plans to expand The Vetcare Centres’ service offerings and further enhance its status as a fully accredited nurse training facility in the Channel Islands.

Strengthening Community Ties

MAHG’s approach is centred around its people. We emphasise partnership and growth, working closely with the existing management and staff of The Vetcare Centres to build on their strong community ties and excellent reputation. "Our mission is to be the employer of choice for nurses and surgeons by creating a working environment and culture that is second to none," said Zain Khan, CEO of MAHG. "The Vetcare Centres’ outstanding community reputation and commitment to quality care makes it an ideal partner for our first venture into this sector as we build simple but impactful digital solutions to age-old clinical and operational problems."

Looking Forward

The acquisition of Vetcare Centres is just the beginning of MAHG’s journey to transform a part of the animal health sector. Yazan Mustafa, the CIO of MAHG, said “MAHG’s strategy is to grow the portfolio of clinics and introduce cutting-edge digital solutions in parallel. We want to set new standards in animal health care and our team at Vetcare gives us the strong foundation required to do so.”
